Under 18 Aball Event Carly Arrindell Memorial Paintball Shield 2009
Carly Anne MemorialCarly Anne MemorialCarly Anne Memorial Carly Anne MemorialCarly Anne MemorialCarly Anne Memorial
On Sunday 13th September 2009 National Paintball Fields at Bassetts Pole Birmingham, held its annual charity event in aid of the Leicester charity Wishes 4 Kids. The charity is none funded and relies on events that people put on or from donations. All money goes to helping terminal or seriously disadvantaged children have a wish come true. This year most of the money will be going to help an 8 year old boy who is in the final stages of terminal cancer. He and his family will be going to Disney Paris for a week.
The paintball event was set up in 2008 after a teenager Carly Arrindell died tragically in a motor accident. Carly loved children hence why we chose this charity, and we honour her memory by holding this event each year.
This year the theme was heroes and villains and many of the regular paintball players and staff got into the spirit of the event by dressing up as their favourite hero or villain. The regulars were joined by customers and the family of Carly, some travelled as far away as London to take part in the event. In all there were over 40 people taking part including staff from National Paintball Fields.
The day began with everyone being split into 4 teams. 2 villain teams v 2 hero teams each team played each other for points with Gazs Jolly Green Giants coming first winning the trophy followed by Gagins Raiders in close 2nd; Papa Gs Marauders in 3rd and Drasks Scurvys coming 4th. In the afternoon the 4 teams were split into 2 teams good v evil with a princess that needed rescuing needless to say good triumphed over evil to win the day ☺
Russell Brickett MD for Wishes 4 Kids was on hand to present the winning trophy for the mornings event and medals and appreciation certificates to all those that attended the event including staff. The provisional total raised for this years event is in excess of 1800 pounds 1400 was collected on the day.
On behalf of Carly and her family; Wishes 4 Kids I would like to thank all who made this event possible, and help keep making it an outstanding success.

Ashley Giles at NPF
ashley

When it comes to selecting the best - Ashley Giles knows his onions. As one of England Cricket's best spin bowlers and now one of England's chief cricket selectors Ashley is well placed to know when he's on to a good thing.

And Ashley knows he's on to a winner when he comes to NPF. He has been a regular at National Paintball Fields over the years and did not hesitate to contact NPF when he had to organise a stag do for one of his best mates.

Ashley and his mates had a great time and he was probable proudly displaying his bruises in the 'long room'.

“GUNSHIP”
1980’s Cold War tensions between the Soviet Union and the U.S. are high…pressure is building on both sides.  Russian helicopters or “gunships” are working overtime shipping weapons cargo in order
to build-up  Soviet military might. Heavily laden but also heavily armed these gunships become strategic targets for undercover agents. A “search and destroy” policy has been adopted by operatives – you must protect and preserve your Gunship and it’s cargo
at all costs.

“BLOW THE BRIDGE”
Your small section of Assault troops have been tasked with stopping the fleeing enemy Army in it’s tracks and to take prisoners. Bridges at strategic river crossings must be covered and you must use all weaponry available  to prevent the enemy escape. Your forward unit of engineers and demo experts are deployed into the area – you must reach your objective and blow the bridge to achieve victory.

HOSTEL Star visits NPF

Icelandic actor and paintball addict Eythor Gudjonsson brought his troop of Icelandic star students along to NPF for a weekend of full-on PB.
Eythor, famous for his star roles in the HOSTEL movies is a long time friend of National Paintball Fields and could think of no better place to bring his group of competition winners.
The guys were visiting the site as a result of winning a competition for university students.
The guys won a trip to the UK to play at Europe's premier SuperSite. Two days of solid paintball left these boys gagging for more and vowed to come back next year, hoping that next time they will be treated to better accomadation than the Hostel they stayed in this year... Question is... will we ever se them again?

How lucky are most of US?

Yet sometimes we forget that there are a lot of people who are less fortunate than ourselves. And this becomes especially traumatic when these, less fortunate, are children.

On 14th September National Paintball Fields and 'Wishes4Kids' hosted a special event in memory of Carly Ann Arrindell, who tragically died on the 10th July this year in a motor vehicle accident.
Wishes 4 KidsWishes 4 Kids
Wishes 4 Kids
The event was organised by Dave and Drask George – personal friends of Carly.

Players from all walks of life attended; friends and family of Carly, NPF staff also joined in as did players who just wanted to join the fun. Over £2800 was raised for Wishes 4 Kids on the day and Wishes 4 Kids would like to thank everyone who gave money for this just cause. Extra cash was also raised by running a raffle and two players volunteered to have their legs and chest waxed! Fancy Dress was also encouraged!

All the Players had a wicked time and helped make it a magical and memorable day for all concerned, with lots of the new players saying they would definitely be visiting NPF in the near future.

Russell Brickett from Wishes 4 Kids was totally amazed at what we managed to achieve and also thanked everyone for their marvellous efforts as he accepted the cheque along with Carly’s parents Rick & Tina Arrindell.

Because of the success of this inaugural event and the immense amounts of fun that was had and money that was raised - NPF has installed the Carly Ann Arrindell Memorial Shield day as a permanent fixture on its calendar. We have already fixed the date for 2009! We have twelve months to plan, so there is no reason why next year's event won't be bigger and better than 2008. So, set your alarms and mark your calendars for Sunday September 13th 2009. Let battle commence....

DIAMOND WARS - A player's perpective
Diamond Wars Continues…
Download the site map:

After two grueling episodes of this unique scenario game brought to us by Scenario Sunday and National Paintball Fields, I have written this article to show the outside world what it is like to TRULY play soldier for the day. After arriving on site for Episode Two of the Diamond Wars I was led to the site’s “Own Gunners” safe area. A spacious hiding set aside for those of us privileged to own our own Paintball markers. There were already about 25-30 people staging from here but there was still plenty of space so I proceeded to set my kit up. Twenty or so minutes later I was ready to go.

After a speech of the ins and outs of the format of play given by the event’s ultimate, we all went to chrono our markers. The site limit was 280fps. From there we were led to our teams HQ. I was part of the United States Diamond Exports (U.S.D.E.), and our opposing forces were known as the Hoffmann Minex Corporation (H.M.C.), who were launching from an unknown area.

Our troop commander was simply known as ‘The Colonel’ who seemed to be very clued up about the area we were playing on, his information, along with that of his right hand man, proved to be very valuable throughout the day. Our first mission was split into two parts, we were to retrieve a supply box for our forces and we also had to blow up a bridge! I chose to go with the latter mission! The area we had to traverse began with dense woodland which then opened up onto an abandoned POW camp; we soon located the bridge we had to take out (1 of 5) and set up a defence, while our demolitions guy attached the grenades (paint grenades, that is). ‘This is going to be easy’, I thought… Unfortunately, the H.M.C. arrived at our location shortly after us and pretty much wiped us out, sending us back to our HQ/re-spawn point with our tails between our legs and without blowing anything up. Shortly after arriving back at HQ, we heard several explosions emitting from our previous location, which suggested that the H.M.C had completed their mission.

We were not going to give up. After the return of the other half of our forces, we learned that we had not only retrieved OUR supply crate, but had somehow picked up the H.M.C. supply crate also. These crates, as we soon found out, contained nice cold fruit juice and plenty of cups. After a quick discussion and a thumbs up from the Ultimate, we were permitted to ‘sell’ the contents back to the enemy for a single point!

We proceeded with the rest of the day’s missions which were issued to our Commander via the media of a Mission Card. These missions included; locating a comms tower, which was an impressive structure to say the least; locating, and re-locating two full size coffins, which was awesome fun, as these were instant barricades! This mission was a failure, as we were ambushed shortly after finding the coffins. Following that, we were to do a reconnaissance mission on an enemy structure and had great fun trying to stay hidden! After returning the intel gathered from that mission, we were instructed to storm the enemy’s structure, which turned out to be a research lab and gather all documents.

We had about 45mins lunch after this and then moved out to the HQ’s for the afternoon’s missions which among other things involved attacking the enemy’s helicopter buy surprise, garrisoning the POW camp and fending it off from attack!
The penultimate mission was to locate a missile (yes, a missile) and defuse it. Unfortunately, after stating I was colour blind, I was told that to defuse the missile we were simply to hold the position around it, which we successfully completed, with the help of our two ghillie’d up snipers!

The last Mission we were given was on an area previously unused by us. The area was amazing with blown up and crashed land rovers, a huge operations base, various military features and huge earth mound defences - the place looked like it should be the outdoor HQ for a James Bond Villain!! The format for the last mission was to simply keep the U.S.D.E’s flag up for as long as possible. This was an intense battle with smoke and grenades being chucked left, right, centre, and over!

In my opinion, throughout the day, I found the Hoffmann Minex Corporation’s forces to be very skilled in guerrilla warfare - at various points through the day they had set up sentries around OUR HQ! They were a ruthless enemy and actually completed more missions than us, including holding their flag up for longer than us on the last mission. However… before the last mission all players from both sides were chrono’d and three of the H.M.C. were firing hot (over 300) so ten points each were deducted from their overall score. The score for this event was 112 points to the Hoffmann Minex Corporation and The United States Diamond Exports totaled 116 points!

The overall standings for the Diamond Wars could now not be any closer - the H.M.C. have 205 points and the U.S.D.E. are trailing by a mere 1 point at 204 points.

I cant wait for the next episode ….see you all in August comrades!

DIAMOND WARS - Episode 2
Episode Two

With the intelligence gathered from the Reconnaissance missions, the troops of the United States Diamond Exports (USDE), and the Hoffmann Minex Corporation (HMC) were deployed back into the unforgiving territories of the Jungles of the Democratic Republic of Corimbe. A veteran Colonel who had fought in the chemical wars of these Jungles, was recruited by the USDE to lead the US Forces. Col. S. Mayo, known quite simply as ‘the Colonel’ led his troops without fear. Returning as the commander of the Hoffmann Minex Corporation was Major Matt Corrall, ruthless as ever, leading fast and furious attack groups, severely damaging the USDE’s lines, and at one point almost destroying their HQ. After gathering supplies for their armies whilst blowing up enemy supply routes, the USDE found the HMC to be a very formidable force, which stopped them destroying a supply route. The USDE managed to acquire the HMC supply crate, as well as their own crate. After a brief discussion, the USDE made a deal with the HMC resulting in them selling the HMC’s supplies back to them!
Both teams battled on to locate and re-inter two coffins, hidden somewhere in the jungle. After locating and gathering both coffins the USDE looked to have the mission under wraps, but the ruthless HMC’s troops were under cover, waiting for the USDE to collect the coffins for them, at which point they ambushed them and took both coffins as their own. After setting up a lab to discover the secrets of a crystal skull found in one of the coffins, the HMC set themselves up to defend the area with patrols and sentries. The USDE had sent out a reconnaissance team to observe. The info gathered by this team proved valuable when the USDE re-grouped and attacked the lab, gathering all files, the crystal skull, and finally blowing up the lab. They then successfully held the area from attack.
After seeing a missile flying across the trees of the jungle, but not hearing a resulting explosion, both forces set out to discover its location. The HMC wanting to attain any explosives and chemicals from the warhead. The USDE wishing to defuse it and make the area safe. A skirmish over the missile broke out both forces, however, managed to complete their objectives.
The final firefight took place on previously unseen territory, an abandoned military base was located nearby, located in a prime tactical location, the HMC successfully held the position for the majority of the battle.
Battles throughout the day were hard and tasking with both teams sustaining large casualty numbers.
This Battle ended with the HMC at 142 points, attained by completing the majority of their missions, and collecting intelligence… however... they received a 30 point reduction, due to markers firing well over the chrono limit of 280. Their total event points were 112.
The USDE, over the day, received 116 points for mission completions, and gathered intelligence. This gave them their first win of the series.

The total series points could, literally, not be any closer. Overall the scores are 204 points to the U.S. Diamond Exports, and 205 points to the Hoffmann Minex Corporation..
The war continues with the HMC seeming to experiment with what appears to be alien remains, missiles and toxic chemicals whilst the USDE fight tactically to destroy the HMC’s efforts of domination. Roll on the next episode of the Diamond Wars on Sunday 31st August………………

DIAMOND WARS - Episode 1
Episode One

Reconnaissance Teams from two of the world’s largest Diamond Cartels were deployed to the jungles of the Democratic Republic of Corimbe. Thermo scans of the area suggested large quantities of various precious minerals were housed deep beneath the surface of the jungle. Little was known about the area, as it was abandoned years ago after a chemical war broke out. The Hoffmann Minex Corporation of Europe hired a group of Mercenaries to do their dirty work. Led by a ruthless Major, they sustained very few casualties over the battles that took place between themselves and the elite Reconnaissance Team from the United States Diamond Exports company. Locating Diamond depositories became a second priority after both teams discovered ancient and mystical artefacts, battled constantly through the Jungle, garrisoned POW camps to fend off unseen enemies, and blew up supply routes. Staying alive was their main concern!

The U.S. Reconnaissance Team sent out regular patrols though the jungle to discover what the HMC were up to. They found out that the Hoffmann Mercenary Squad were to collect supplies dropped in by helicopter, but their helicopter crashed, causing their supplies to be up for grabs by whichever force could capture them. The supplies, luckily, did not fall into enemy hands.

The Hoffmann Mercenaries, whilst constantly trying to build up their base by using the POW camp as a more defendable station, were under regular attack by U.S. troops who were vigilantly trying to break their lines and push them back into the jungle. The U.S. squad managed to blow up the watch towers used by the HMC thus disabling their defence, they then broke through and destroyed their comms station sending the Hoffmann Mercenaries into disorder. The final battle of the day was for possession of the POW camp which was won, narrowly by the Hoffmann Mercenaries, but well fought by the U.S. Reconnaissance Team.

At the end of the skirmish, the U.S. Reconnaissance Squad accumulated 88 points by completing missions and dominating tactical territories.
The Hoffman Mercenary Squad managed to gain themselves 93 points, which gave them a very narrow victory.

Three hundred 'ballerz' descended on NPF to help celebrate its 21st year as Europe's Premier paintball venue and even the typical british 'summer' didn't dampen the spirits.

The 3rd Light Gurkhas  and the Arctic Warfare Battalion  led by NPF' s Gurkha Lavelle and General Mayo spent the day battling it out on the NPF's brand new zones - M.I.A rescue Rambo, Operation Diamond and The Depot. The morning session saw the teams executing tactical missions to infiltrate the oppositions defenses and NPF added to the already intense atmosphere with Pyro FX and plenty of smoke. So realistic were the scenarios that we still have troops 'dug in' somewhere on site. These troops haven't realised the battle is over. It was so easy to get carried away with the whole experience.
Without even breaking for lunch the two armies regrouped and planned an all out assault on the awesome Operation Diamond. No prisoners were taken and casualties were high. But, after a very long and intense period of heavy fire - the Arctic Warfare Battalion put the strangle hold on the 3rd Light, eventually overpowering the battalion's dwindling defenses. Without even drawing breath both armies encamped to the infamous trenches for the classic NPF curtain call -  'BIG GAME ACTION'. The sky was  a haze of paint as the bravest of the brave stood their ground to be crowned 'King of the Trenches' but  the jury is still out on the overall outcome from this banzai battle. General Mayo is convinced his troops were victorious but Gurkha Lavell would strongly detest this claim to victory.
Perhaps another battle would settle the argument once and for all. Watch this space...

Both  military mights led their troops back to base camp to celebrate this historical day. And what a contrast from the theatre of war they had just experienced. With the NPF Nymphs there to mop the weary brow and to add and air of tranquil calm, the beer flowing and the Hog roasting - the troops had nothing more to do but relax and chill out to the tunes eschewing from the DJ booth of Chris D'Rocca.

And so the incredible day drew to a close with some of the brave honored for their tenacity and courage - including NPF stalwart Barry Nelson who received a special mention for his loyalty and determination.

If you thought this sounded like a day not to be missed and you are kicking yourself for avoiding the action -  checkout the special scenarios days that will be hosted at NPF this year. Keep your ear to the ground by logging on to www.nationalpaintballfields.com
